Do you know what is the IK Code? (IEC 62262 and IEC 60068-2-75 standards)

The IK Code, or impact rating, is a coding system that indicates the degree protection provided by enclosures for electrical equipment against external mechanical impacts

The IK Code is based on the international standards IEC 62262 and IEC 60068-2-75, which describe how the impact test should be carried out on enclosures.

The IK Code ranges from zero (minimum of resistance) to ten (maximum of resistance). In the following table, you can see in more detail the different IK rating values and the energy that the product is able to withstand:

The IK test is performed by an impact element dropped from a specified height with a defined weight and shape at the test site.

Generally, the protection degree applies to the totality of the enclosure, if any part has a different degree of protection, this must be stated separately in the manufacturer’s instructions or documentation.

IEC 62262 standard specifies only the amount of impact energy, while the conduct and requirements for the test procedures are regulated in detail in IEC 60068-2-75 standard.

Testing for impact protection enables you to secure a competitive advantage in the tenders, increase reliability, improve product shelf life, consolidate brand image, and allow you master the current technology.
