Fire propagation apparatus

to measure fundamental material characteristics and fire spread by measuring the critical heat flux

The Fire Propagation Apparatus (FPA) is designed to measure the fundamental properties of materials during fire propagation by measuring the critical heat flux.

Material characteristics that are quantified include ignition time, effective heat of combustion, critical heat flux, thermal response and propagation index for horizontal samples.

The equipment is not suitable for testing materials which change from solid to liquid during the test. This test is used to measure and characterise the response of materials subjected to heat and fire under controlled conditions.
